It's impossible to put a price on a website as a 'one off fee'..
1. Rule number one in building a website is simply don't overthink it! A website is never completely built ....ever. How is this? Well it's the biggest single misconception people have. The whole idea of having a website is so that you can update it , change it do whatever with it. So how some website companies can get away with charging a 'one off fee' we'll never know. The only possible way you can arrive at a set price for a website is if you know exactly what you want on it. If that is the case you can say to a website designer this is exactly what I want....give me a price please. Now we know from experience that it is very rare (I haven't actually ever seen this happen in 12 years) when a business is a) able to dedicate the time to planning out what they want on a website and b) be happy with a situation whereby they can't change the site in a week , month , year or however long's time.
Make sure you get a .co.uk domain name
2. The second most important piece of advice I would give to someone having a website built is to make sure you register the name of your company (preferably through the company you are trusting to build your site - preferably us) as a .co.uk. Why? If you do this it is regulated in the United Kingdom by an organisation called Nominet. If ever there is a dispute over the legal ownership of the domain name Nominet can step in and act as arbitration. In other words you will have a much easier task of poving you are you! Plus as well as that you can contact them in normal office hours - they speak good English! and I have found them very helpful. And remember your business emails are connected to your domain name so it important you get this side of things covered correctly.
